Putting Memory Card Device into Drive won't automatically open window any longer

A friend of mine has a new Compaq with XPHome and he was thrilled to learn
he could put his memory card from his digital camera directly into a slot on
the PC and it would open a window so he could review the pics and save them
to a folder. Suddenly yesterday, it stopped doing that.

I showed him how to go to Explorer and click on Drive G and do the same
thing, but he thinks that is complicated. Also, we both wonder why it
changed behavior. How do we change this behavior back to what it was
before?

Try this...
Double click on My Computer, then highlight the card-drive
in question... right click on that drive, then click on
Properties, select the Autoplay Tab and then click on
the type of action you want taken.
If that doesn't work, suggest to your friend, "Don't
sweat the small stuff".
