purplehaz; >>The two things I find about this error, is one if your cd drive is not
working also, try updating your cd burning software(ezcd creator or nero).<<
1. My cd burner works fine.
ph; This usually gets all the drives working again.

ph; >>Also I seen references to nortons causing this problem. If you have nortons
installed, try uninstalling and see if it works, then reinstall nortons.<<
2. I don't have norton, I am using McAfee Internet Security

hgsnvns; >4. I was thinking about running two hard drives with XP on one and 98se on the slave. Can I do that?

Tim; Yes, this is called multibooting. XP will give you to opportunity to
set up such a scenario if you upgrade a Win98SE setup.
3. I don't have Win 98se. This computer was built new and Win XP installed.
4. Is there any other way to do this?
5. A friend offered me a 98se cd to install and then upgrade with my XP CD, will that work?

Ok. I foget did you say the drive works ok in another computer? If it does
then you might be at the format and reinstall xp part. If the drive still
doesn't work after a format, then it is most likely a hardware issue on the
motherboard itself and would need a repair shop to fix that.

I haven't tried the floppy drive in another puter, I did try another floppy drive and cables in this one, same result and message.

If you can try it in a friends computer. I know this is a pain but it helps.
If it works in the other computer, format yours and try again. If after
format it still doesn't work, then I would suspect the motherboard
connection.

You always do buddy. Take care. hgsnvns......say, where does the purplehaz moniker come from? just curios. :{)

I grew up on jimi hendrix (and zeppelin, rush, the who, floyd, etc). I also
play guitar, although its bass guitar, but my music background and love for
one of the best ever is why I use the name. I think the first time I used
it, about 6-7 years ago, I was listening to hendrix at the time and just
picked the name.

Great choice of musical artist, Jimmy has always been one of my favorites (Led Zepplin has long been my favorite) and your choice was always one of my favorites of his.....funny how we choose or tie our monikers/screen name to what we like doing. My hogsnvines is actually a nickname of my everyday moniker/screen name. Harleysngrapes (my love of the wind, roar of my harleys, love of the brotherhood, and my love of good wine). Later on, or Tootles (in biker termanology)

It is funny. I figure with your screen name that you rode a harley and you
liked wine, I was right on. Some day when I grow up I'll get a hog, but
right now I have a croch rocket - Honda CBRF2 600. Keep on riding and may
classic rock live on. Have a good one.

What do you call a bass player who just broke up with his girlfriend?
:)
Steve (also a musician - I play almost everything)

I give, what?

LOL -- that's funny and in many cases very true. We bass players get no
respect. (that's why when I played in a steady band and had shows I always
stood up front. No sticking the bass player in the back for me. ;o)

Way kewl - PH! Same music I grew up on and still enjoy. Especially am
drawn to bass players. :o) I had a favorite bass player (Bryan Lee &
Jumpstreet 5) that we used to catch on Bourbon Street (Absinthe House) and
at the Jazz Fest. Have a couple of their CD's. BTW, my husband plays box
and sings.

It's the riding that counts, not what you ride, keep the rubbers side down bro. Later
liked wine, I was right on. Some day when I grow up I'll get a hog, bu
