Purple color cast to black

bendipa

I have a HP 930C which I've owned for years. I recently changed the
color cartridge. I normally use the printer for monochrome output.
But I've tried some color printing which includes black, grey and
white tones as seen on the screen. The greys and whites seem ok if a
bit muddy. But the black tones print out with a purple cast, and there
are faint vertical streaks associated with them.

I've tried changing the saturation, hues properties, but it just seems
to make the problem either worse or doesn't eliminate the cast.. I'm
using plain paper settings as that is what I am using as printing
media. I'm also using Olympus Master software through which I'm
printing.

Has anyone similar problems and found an explanation or way of
eliminating this type of cast? Where do you start?

Hi!

Has this problem just started or has it been going on since the printer was
new?

I'm thinking that you might have a bad color cartridge.

Graphics are generally printed with the color cartridge, even if they are
grayscale since the color drops are about 1/6 the size of the black drops.
You probably are missing yellow from your cartridge. You can print a nozzle
test as shown at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...e=bpd07098&product=61012&dlc=en&lang=en#N1275

If the new cartridge is an original HP cartridge and is missing the yellow
then check to see if it is still in the two year warranty as shown at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...e=bpd07098&product=61012&dlc=en&lang=en#N1275
If the cartridge is still under warranty contact your dealer or HP for a
replacement. If the cartridge is beyond the two year warranty then a fresh
cartridge will probably solve your problem. When buying new cartridges look
for the "install by" date on the package.

For the faint lines you might check the nozzle diagnostic test. If there
are regular missing lines throughout all the colors then try cleaning the
cartridge contacts as shown at:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=bpa02060

If there are random missing nozzles then try cleaning the nozzles from the
toolbox cleaning cycle.

Since i posted, I cleaned the nozzle heads and reloaded the drivers.
The 930c is now printing black correctly, except the striations (fine
parallel lighter streaks) are still present.

Did you try printing a diagnostic test as shown at
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...=bpd07098&product=61012&dlc=en&lang=en#N1275?
What were the results - a good sample should show unbroken nozzle patterns
of cyan, magenta and yellow (and black). A description of your results
would help diagnose the issue.

I tried printing. but using that website i got nothing like you
suggested. Instead I got some very faint monochrome showing my serial
number (barely legible) and an error code number (looks like
90020301)

It sounds like you printed the self test page, you need to print the
diagnostic page as shown at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...e=bpd07098&product=61012&dlc=en&lang=en#N1275
.. This is listed just below the self test page, it is the one where you
press the X button 8 times and the other button 4 times. This will give a
nozzle diagnostic something like shown at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...me=bpu00734&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&dlc=en&lang=en
for the G series Officejet. How does your print compare? I would expect
missing areas in yellow, and perhaps a bad black section as well. Most
likely your problem would be cured with fresh cartridges, but please
describe the results of the diagnostic test to confirm this.
