Purchasing 42" Plasma or LCD for presentations

Hello everyone.

I'd like to ask the fine folks here about buying a new plasma or lcd
for our presentations in our conference room.

We have a 32" lcd that we use to run a powerpoint loop in another
section of our office and it works very well. We are wanting to go
larger with our next display. 42".

When you get that large, LCDs really get pricey, so we are looking at
a plasma for this one.

A few questions. Does the plasma need to be HD? Or can we get away
with an ED tv. I was looking at Panasonic's line of professional
plasma tv like this: http://tinyurl.com/7f9qy

This display only has a native resolution of 852 x 480. I know my
presentations will be larger than this and was wondering if this would
be a good choice or not.

I'd be very interested in hearing what some of you are using for
displays for your presentations.

Hi Ward,

To be honest everyone has a different idea on what "good enough" is. My
suggestion is to take a lap top with a presentation to the store and ask the
sales people to allow you to hook it up so you can see what it is your
buying. I've found most stores are very helpful in this when they learn
your going to plunk down that kind of money.

LCDs. We did have plasmas previously and ended up replacing them because
they self-destructed. The power source went out in both of them, one in the
middle of a crowded meeting with people underneath it. The screen gave a
very loud and frightening bang and shut down. We later discovered that it
had also blown out one of the connections in our equipment as well. Though
we were lucky that when the power source went, it didn't crack the plasma
screen itself.

From my research, the LCDs do have a long life, but I honestly think the
dramatic self-destruction of the plasmas was the major influence in what we
replaced it with.

I've seen many plasma screens on long terms use in 'rolling displays' ...
and most have sufferred from 'burn-in'.... ghosting of images on the screen.

That's right -- we had screen burn in on one of the screens, too. It showed
a perfect ghost image of the teleconferencing menu. The new ones, I believe,
are supposed to shift position one pixel at a time to prevent this from
happening.
