2 WEEKS AGO I PURCHASED AND INSTALLED WINDOWS XP PRO. MY
HARD DRIVE HAS CRASHED AND I'VE PURCHASED A NEW PC. WITH
WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION. CAN I INSTALL WINDOWS XP ON THE
REPLACEMENT PC OR MUST I BUY A NEW COPY. IT SEEMS UNFAIR
TO HAVE TO BUY A NEW COPY OF XP AS I STILL USE IT ON ONLY
ONE MACHINE. THANKS

And even worse, your caps lock seems broken too.

Anyway, I believe you can install your XP Pro on it if you're not using it
on the old computer anymore.

YES, YOU CA ... <clears throat>... much better.
Yes, you can install XP Pro on your new machine, since it is no longer
running on your old one.

The only exception is if you purchased an OEM copy of XP (if it didn't come
in a retail box, like you see at Best Buy, then it's probably an OEM copy) -
if you did, and you already activated it on your old PC, you're out of luck.
OEM licenses cannot be transferred to a different PC than the one it was
first activated on.

If it's the retail version, it can be installed on any computer you want as
long as it is installed on one computer at a time. The OEM version is
restricted to the original computer it is installed. Check the EULA located
in the i386 folder on the CD.
BTW, using all caps is the equivalent of screaming shouting in newsgroup
posts. Which you most likely were doing. It's also harder to read.

Greetings --

First of all, please unstick your CapsLock key. Posting in all
caps, as you have done, is the Usenet equivalent of shouting, and is
considered very rude. More importantly, posting in all caps makes the
post very hard to read, further reducing your chances of getting help.

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on, and install
it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you
might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
