Publishing To Hard Drive

Dick

I have tried to follow the advice posted here regarding publishing a
website back to the local drive, but I must be missing a step. I open
FP2000, then do a File/Open or File/Open Web, then I click on the
world icon (Search the Web) which opens up Internet Explorer. I type
in the URL of the site and it just opens as it normally would in IE.
Doesn't ask me for a name or password, and isn't opening in FP. What
am I missing?

File | Open WEB (not open, open WEB)

TYPE the address of the site you want to edit in the bar at the bottom. Use
the complete URL including "http://" or copy and paste.

Authenticate.

Then go, File | Publish Web, NOW is the time you use the browse. Browse to
your desktop or wherever, make a new folder (yellow icon with little star on
it) and click OK.

Next say "Yes" to the message about "do you want to create a web".

Wait until it is finished.

The result should be a folder with a world on it with all your files in it,
including some "housekeeping" files that FrontPage uses (and that you should
not touch).

Now you can edit there while not being online, or keep it as an archive or
backup or whatver.

[Your mistake is not typing in the site to find it, dont click to find the
site, type.]
