Publishing back from ISP site to local computer?

K

Kerry

Several months ago I published my FP site to my ISP - it
was a "temporary/work in process" small website. Since
then my old computer took a dive. When I got my new
computer I created a brand new fully developed website
with FP and am going to publish it to my ISP, effectively
replacing the "old" website.

However, before doing this I would like to "save" the old
website back to my computer from the ISP published website
(as I had no backup copy of this when my old computer
died).

First - can I do this - publish from the website back to
my local computer? Do I have to set up some type
of "blank" empty folder structure first in order to
receive it?
Second, when I do this, will I get a chance to tell it
where to "save" the information to on my computer? I don't
want it to wipe out my newly developed pages (which have
the same folder/file name as the old web did).

Thanks,
Kerry

Kerry,

You can open your site on the ISP's server and publish down to any location
on your hard drive. When you choose "File | Open Web," enter your website
address. Once the site is open, select "File | Publish" and publish it to a
path on your hard drive such as "C:\old website backup", or whatever makes
sense for you.

You don't need to create a directory structure beforehand. And you don't
even have to create the new directory. If it doesn't exist, FrontPage can
create it.

When you have the site down to your drive, you may want to zip up the whole
thing and copy that onto a CD.

The folder "http://Website" isn't accessible. The folder may be located on
an unavailable volume or protected with a password.

Hey Jack,

Hope you can help. I was wanting to do the same thing. However I do have a
question. I followed your instructions that you gave Kerry, However, when I
click File/Open Web, its asking me for the file location. If I enter the
URL, I get the following message " The folder 'www.####.com' isnt
accessable. This folder maybe located on an unavailable volume or protected
with a password". Is it something that I am doing wrong. If its not too much
to ask, can you provide me with specific/detailed instructions?
