PSU help needed

Dave_s

I am having a PC built and I have been warned to buy a
good quality power supply. I plan to buy a PSU of 350 - 400 watts
to power the INTEL D865PERLK mobo, Prescott 2.8GHz CPU,
1GB RAM, a few HDD's, CDRW, DVD, etc.

I have been looking at PC cases and almost all cases include a PSU.
Which case vendors provide reliable PSU?
ANTEC, PSI, PCMCIS, KINGWIN, MGE, ENERMAX, FOXCONN, MICROLAB or?

Which PSU have bben reliable?
PCMCIS, KINGWIN, ANTEC, ENLIGHT, ENERMAX or?

Are DUAL FAN PSU advisable?
Have you had any failures with dual fan PSU?

Thanks for any help, Dave_s

I most often hear good things about Antec and Enermax. PC Power &
Computing is probably the best, but noticably more expensive.

A "few" hard drives? Hmm. I'd probably go for at least 450W, just to
be safe. Try this one possibly:

As for dual fans, yes they are generally better.

According to the internet review sites and my own experience, Antec makes
the most rugged and conservatively rated power supplies. They cost a little
more, but are well worth it in the long run.

PC Power & Cooling's website shows a comparison between their 510W and
an unnamed competitor's (Enermax) 550W, and they said that the
latter's second fan didn't help. I thought that having two fans would
be a benefit only if one of the fans failed.

I've never heard of PSI, PCMCIS, or Microlab, but when I looked at a
350-400W MGE in a store, I wondered where the power transformer was
because it was so small. I'm not sure, but I think that Kingwin and
Enlight are made by Sirtec, a good manufacturer, but they could also
be made by Topower, which isn't as good (one of their brands is
Aspire). I believe that Enermax did OK in tests done by
www.tomshardware.com, and they seem to be decent but have a slightly
smaller transformer than usual. Avoid Foxconn because it's one of the
brands from Deer/Codegen/L&C, which is famous for junk. Antec is
really good, but you can usually buy an even better Fortron/Sparkle
(Hi-Q, PowerQ, Powerman, Aopen) for less, such as from
www.newegg.com).
