PStory 3 and Movie Maker 2

J

Jeni

Hi everyone

New to this group. Running WinXP with SP2. 512mb ram.

I've been trying to learn PStory 3 and MM 2 with enormous help from
PapaJohn's site and all
you other helpful people in the forums. Have managed to make a PStory
video with still pictures,
music, transitions, titles etc. All the photos have been saved in PSD
format. I saved the project file
and saved the story to computer. Everything works great on playback
and I was very pleased.
So I thought I'd try to import the story into MM 3 BUT..

Here's the problem:

I ran MM 3 and imported the PStory file which appeared to run OK
although I sometimes had a long wait
for some of the photos [47 photos and mp3 background music lasting 8mins
12secs in total] to actually
show, before placing them on the storyboard. I then noticed some of the
imported photos were missing
altogether, and some were showing a black square but with no actual
picture. I right-clicked on these
to browse for missing files, but the "browse" funtion was greyed out. I
then counted the number of files which
HAD been imported - only 32 were showing! So I was missing 15 photos.
I then re-checked that the PStory
was still intact and replayed it to make sure. All was fine.

I read in this ng that someone else had a problem with missing photos
but I think he/she had inadvertently
moved some of their files from their original place. I haven't moved
any of mine at all. One thing I'm not too sure
about though is that I used the PSD format.....I remember seeing
somewhere that this would be OK and it obviously
is for PStory. I'm now wondering if this might be a problem for MM 3 and
whether I should have saved as JPEGs?

I've defragmented, cleaned up, disabled everything I can think of,
checked memory space and so on...

Please could someone help?

BTW... for PapaJohn - I've been attempting to save your website under
Favorites, but get the message "Web page cannot be saved". I've also
tried synchronising your pages but it takes forever and never seems to
finish. Any help on this would also be very much appreciated... .
Thankyou all very much. Sorry this is so long.

Hi Jeni,

Maybe you're trying to add it to your favorites with the option checked to
make it available offline... it's a big site and might take too long to
download/sync.

Thanks for the positive note...

Hi PapaJohn

Thanks for your very prompt reply re your website. You're right, it is
an enormous site, but what would I do without it?

I know you're very busy but wondered if you have any comments on my
questions regarding missing photos. saving as PSD files etc., or could
you point me in the right direction to somewhere else? Thanks in
advance.

Jeri,

I'm confused about references to PSD files and MM3 in your post.... are you
referring to Photo Deluxe or PhotoShop files for PSD files, and Movie Maker
which is at version 2, not 3?

That got me as well, I was just about to ask.
Also, MP3 music doesn't work well in Movie Maker, wma/wmv/wav are bette file
types to use.

Hi

Sorry to confuse you all. I DO mean MM2 [not 3] and I DO mean Photoshop
..PSD files.
My apologies - it was very late when I first wrote to the newsgroup.
Any further help would be much appreciated.
Also thanks again for replying Papajohn an Graham. The .mp3 file did
actually play OK both in PStory 3 and MM2
by the way. Please anyone, help if you can. Thankyou.

Although the MP3 may have played ok in MM it might cause saving problems
later.
Try changing the photos to bitmap (batch convert in photoshop) and if they
are very high resolution, lower them a little. Bear in mind tv's only show
72dpi, so a 640x480 picture at 300dpi is just wasting time being dealt with.

Hi

Graham, thanks for your advice. I'll try the batch conversion to bitmap
and lower the resolution
as you suggest. Also I'll convert the .mp3 file to .wav and see what
happens. Will let you know
the results a.s.a.p.
