I want to merge one pst from my laptop into anoter on my desktop.

So far, I am exploring three possibilties.

1. Import/Export
2. Create/Open a backup pst.
3. Add Data file.

Desired Results:
no duplicates
no overwrites

Just a true merge...

And import will get the closest, but importing loses data. I always open
PSTs and copy their contents. I'd use a duplicate remover if I thought
duplicates would be a problem.

Duplicates are not an option because a dup does not merge data into a single
file, infact it does not merge at all, it just copies.

Overwrites are not an because data is lost by copy and pasting over the
duplicate, it just replaces.

I can get a pst into Outlook by using the MSOutlook Personal Files Backup
utility as a single seperate personal folder.

But again, no merging occurs.

How about the xMerge.exe utility from Microsoft? Will it work outside of the
Server environment?

The best way to get a PST into Outlook with File>Open>Outlook Data File.
