Outlook 2003 Won't let me import .pst files

Path followed:
File > Import and Export
Import from another program or file click next
Personal Folder File (.pst) click next
File to import: blah blah blah\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook2.pst (or Browse)
Option Replace duplicates with items imported.
Select the folder to import from: (Personal Folders is highlighted)
Include subfolders is cked
Import items into the same folder in: Drop down menu only has Personal
Folders Click Finish
Message: The source and destination folders for this operation cannot be the
same.

WHAT am I doing wrong?

Sound like you're trying to import from your default PST file (which is
redundant).

Import isn't usually a great idea anyhow. You'd be better off, most of
the time, opening the other PST file as an additional PST file in the
profile (at least temporarily) with File | Open | Outlook Data File and
then dragging/dropping items from the add'l PST file into your default
PST as needed.

Why are you trying to import? Just open the file.

Start Outlook then | file | open | outlook data file| select the pst you
want to open.

Hi Judy,

I re-installed Office 2003 and Outlook 2003. I thought that I just had to
import my .pst file to get all my emails back into Outlook. Since I
re-installed, I only have the Welcome email from Outlook 2003 Team.

O.K., well, my guidance still stands.

1. It sounds like you're trying to import from your default (blank) PST
file instead of from your legacy PST file which has your data in it.

2. I would just set your legacy PST file to be the default. Control
Panel | Mail | Data Files. Click Open Folder and open your legacy PST
file. Then go to E-mail Accounts in that same Mail Setup dialog. Click
the Next button and on the second screen towards the bottom change the
Deliver New Messages to setting to the Legacy PST file that you just
added to the profile.

I re-installed Office 2003 and Outlook 2003. I thought that I just had to

Look in the folder containing the Outlook2.pst file. You should see an
Outlook1.pst or an Outlook.pst file. Likely that's your old PST. Use the
Mail applet in Control Panel to add the other PST and make it the delivery
location.
