.pst files

Alright here is my dilemma:

I am trying to transfer archived information from one person’s computer to
another. I had them make a .pst file but I can’t get it to open on the other
person’s computer. I have cleared the “read only†attribute, I have put it
into the folder with the other .pst’s, I have tried to import it, and I have
tried to straight out open it. As this is pretty important info I need to
get into these files! Anyone know what I should be doing??

What are your versions? Both on the SOURCE PC and the DESTINATION PC?

With the info given, that's the first thing I think about.

Describe exactly how they "make" the PST and how it is transferreed to the
other computer. Also state whether or not Outlook is open or closed at any
stage of this operation on eith the source or destination system. Also
state the exact text of any mesages you see when you attempt any part of the
operation and it fails.

I didn't know there were multiple ways to make a .pst. They use the export
method and export it to a cd. Then when the file is to be imported the error
is that the person (who has domain admin rights) does not have the
permissions to open the file. Saving it to the HD doesn't work because then
it says it isn't a personal folder, even with the read only unchecked.

First, exporting is not the best way to make a copy. Additionally, there's
no way Outlook will export directly to a CD. The best way to make the copy
is to close Outlook, and simply drag the PST to the CD device, allowing
Windows XP's built-in burning software handle it. No export needed.
Obviously, other versions of Windows require burning software.

Then when the file is to be

In my opinion, the most likely cause of the failure to obtain a clean copy
of the PST is that Outlook was open when the copy was performed. This
doesn't mean that Outlook was open on the screen (although it could have
been), but that the OUTLOOK.EXE process was running, either because Outlook
was on the screen, a PDA was cradeled, or some add-in was running that keeps
Outlook open. The second most likely cause, as far as I'm concerned, is the
CD burning software.
