pst file corruption due to 2GB size limit

running outlook 2000 – pst file has been ‘corrupted’ due to file size – if I
install outlook 2003 will it import the pst file?

I’m looking to simply install outlook 2003 and import the ‘corrupt’ pst file
that 2000 cannot read due to file size. Is this an achievable option?

Thanks.

size does not "corrupt" a pst file, they have size limits where they will not
allow you to put more in them. The limit is on the file itself, not the
version of outlook.
also, DO NOT IMPORT pst files, file/open/outlook data file them.
What you can do is open the file in 2003, make a new file in 2003, move/copy
from the old to the new

Thanks for the reply dlw...

When I attempt to access the file I receive the following:
"Properties for this information service must be defined prior to use."

When 'OK' is clicked the following shows up:
"Errors have been detected in the file C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst. Quit all
mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool."

So, I should be able to open this file in outlook 2003 using the file/open
protocol?

Thanks

No, you cannot open a '97-2000' PST file that is over the size limit.
Use the 'oversized PST crop tool'
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296088) to allow Outlook (2000 or 2003)
to open it.

If you use OL2003, create a new PST file, then drag-and-drop all items
from the old file to the new one. DO NOT USE IMPORT!

Where exactly does the 2GB limit kick in? I have three user profiles with
one inbox per profile. Can I store 2GB per profile/inbox? Does the limit
apply just to email in thethe inbox or does it include emails that have been
moved to separate folders?

The limit is on the entire PST, which contains all the mail folders, the
Contacts, the Calendar, and all the other Outlook items.
