PST files in Outlook 2003

I see that the PST file structure in OL 2003 has changed and is not
backwards compatible.

When i create a new profile in OL2003 as part of upgrading from OL XP, does
OL2003 create a PST with the NEW or OLD structure. And HOW does one tell
new from old structure since they both have the same Extension?

And finally, once I create a new Profile and hence a new PST file, and then
open outlook and add in my OLD pst file, what is the BEST way to migrate my
old data to the new PST file so that the data integrity is preserved:
email, contact, task etc all have the original dates (not new creation
dates), the links between contacts and journal, task and email entries
remain connected; calendar entries transfer correctly to the new calendar;
set reminders remain; etc. Someone told me to simply drag the "contents" of
the old folders to the New folders, not to export/import.

thanks for the help in advance

All new PSTs will have the new structure unless you explicitly instruct
Outlook to open it in 97-2002 format.

While I don't know for sure, perhaps something on the PST's Propertiy page
in Outlook.

That is exactly how you do it. You open the old PST with Outlook and drag
your old data to the new PST. If you right-click and drag, you can COPY
instead of MOVE, preserving your old PST intact.

BTW - The new structure is Unicode and you can have a PST up to 16GB.
