.pst file will not import

Aloha,
Last week our old hard drive crashed. I did have all my outlook emails
backed up on a disk .pst because this is my business.

The new hard drive is installed as are all the programs. Outlook 2003 Small
Business (which we also used last time) is up and running fine. I now need
to import these emails, notes, calendar, etc from the disk.

I have read NOT to use the Import function in Outlook but to copy the files
to the hard drive. It seems the files have "Read-only" checked. When I go
to uncheck and click apply an error message comes up stating "An error
occured applying attributes to the file D:/Outlookbackup.pst. Access denied."

We thought that we would try unchecking the "Read-Only" box and not close
out the properties window while trying to copy to the hard drive. The
copying did run until the very end when another error message came up "Data
Error - cyclic redundancy check".

So here we are. I desperately need to get these files onto my computer. As
mentioned my entire business contacts for the last 8 months are on this disk.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mahalo for your time
Sylvia

Copy the file to the hard drive first then remove the read-only attribute.

Aloha Vince,

I did just as you instructed and the same error message came up as before
when copying "Data Error - cyclic redundancy check". I appreciate your
efforts in trying to assist me. I hope that not everything is lost. Please
advise.

Didn't you ask this question once before?

CRC errors are pretty good indicators that the data you're trying to copy is
toast.

Aloha Brian,

No I did not ask the same question before. I was following the instructions
a previous responder told me to try. What a rude response you gave. I do
not believe the the files are "toast" as you put them.

Well the exact same symptoms were described just a few messages prior, so I
think it was a reasnable question.
What a rude response you gave.

Rude? How? I used no pejorative terms, I didn't question your
intelligence, and I didn't accuse you of anything. I asked a question and
gave a factual answer. Tell me how that's rude.

Believe what you will. The fact remains that CRC errors are a pretty good
sign your CD data is garbage.

Brian,
I have read several of your replies to others. Your wording is not very
nice. Using words like "Toast" "Garbage" , etc are not very professional.

We come to these discussion groups with very frustrating problems and seek
the advise of experts. Showing alittle compassion for someone's situation
would be nice. We do appreciate those that take the time to help us.
However, we also deserve some respect.

It is too bad that no one monitors the replies that come from the experts.
I think it is a shame. Thankfully all others have been wonderful and I do
appreciate their efforts in trying to help me.

Happy Holidays to you.

Why do I need to be "professional", as you put it? I'm not answering your
question in any official capacity. Moreover, there's nothing inherently
wrong with using the term "toast" or "garbage" to describe data that is
damaged beyond repair. You need to destress a little.

Again, what in the WORLD do you consider disrespectful when I described your
damaged data as "toast" or "garbage"??? How it is in any way insulting?
You need to get out more.
