.pst file 2003-3007 Conversion/Open/Copy Question

I just purchased Outlook 2007 and want to migrate my data over from 2003.
What is the best way to do this? I am mostly concerned about the Calendar
and Contacts. I have seen here that doing an import is NOT receommended due
to lost data. If I open my 2003 calendar, and then "export" the data to a
pst file is that bad? Then, I assume if I go to 2007 and "import" then it
could be a problem? BUT, what if I just OPEN the exported pst file??? Am I
still at risk?? I think that once I open it, it adds it to my list and I can
then work from that pst as my default, is this correct?
Assuming the above is true, I could then do the same procedure for each
of my calendars?? (I have about four calendars in my current outlook). Is it
true that this would then give me four seperate exported calendar pst files
each one opened in 2007 and added to the list so I then would just click on
whichever calendar I wanted to view?? Then, Can I do the same thing with my
contacts?? If so, then i would have a separate pst file for each calendar
and my contacts list. Are there drawbackt to doing it this way?? Is there a
better way??
Finally, I have seen a couple recommended procedures here, but they
usually end up saying something about creating a "new" pst file and then
copying the calendar entries or contacts to the new file. BUT, I have yet
to see anyone state HOW to copy the entries. I am sure we shouldnt have to
copy and paste each individual calendar entry or contact??
I know I have asked a lot of questions here, but I am a little confused
on this and want to migrate my data in the best possible way. Can anyone
answer all these questions for me and educate me in laymans terms?? Thank

Answer has been posted here repeatedly. Just open your previous PST file and
set it as your default. Restart Outlook and close any other PST files in the
profile. Import and export do not belong in this discussion.

That's probably because other posts may have been trying to address how to
convert from one type of PST file to another. Since Outlook 2003 and 2007
use the same PST file type, you have no need to do that and can just keep
using the same file.
