whats a faster loading programmers editor that recognizes (color codes)
html, php, java / javascript, C / C++ and lower on resources plus a
"no-install" (maybe has the capability to run compilers from the
command line) ?

PSPad
http://www.pspad.com/
Latest version: 4.5.0

supports all of the ones you mention, and more.

d'oh, i didn't read your subject line. PSPad is about as good as it gets.
What kind of machine do you have that you find pspad too slow on? I'm using
it on a 1.2GHz machine and it's plenty quick.

I think you are being somewhat unfair and ungrateful to the author, a
guy who puts a helluva lot of work in PSPad, in the subject line that
is. I don't think you will find a smaller and faster freeware editor
with all of PSPad's features. PSPad is the nearest thing to Ultraedit
in freeware land afaik and is a great piece of software imho. Perhaps
you don't need most of it's features In that case there are numerous
alternatives and, if code recognition and colouring is your main
concern, some much smaller ones. Just go to a good freeware site and
have a look at some. I've used Xint for a while, but Ctrl-A (mark all)
did not work, so I ditched it. For 'quick and dirty' I use Metapad and
for serious editing PSPad.

Lately the last version or two has been really slow on my machine (even
after cleaning out the previous versions)

Try NotePad++

I think you will like it.

I recommended Notepad++ before, I'm a big fan, but digging my memory
brought this one up, which sounds more like something you want:

Downloadlink seems down, but it's available here:

PSPAD is BloatWare? The only salient parts needed are the
executable itself, and the English Language file. It doesn't
even need to be installed. Lightning fast on my computer.

just for some reason lately last couple versions seem slower.
As a further observation about PSPad, the main reason I use it
is because of its ability to do live paragraph or whole document
reformatting. It removes existing 0A and 0D line endings,
reformats to whatever line length you choose, and resets
new 0A and 0D codes. That's a marvelous trick not often
found in any kind of word processor; a permanent true reformat
before your eyes.

don't get me wrong, I like(d) pspad, just that the last few versions i'm
unimpressed with.

Did you notice the forum on the author's site? He always has an open ear
and tries to help.
