PS/2 nor USB mouse does not work

I have just gotten a used PC whose date of manufacture is 1996. Type of
mouse which came with the PC is PS/2 and Serial compatible. The mouse
has with PS/2 interface connector and is connected to a serial port via
PS/2-to-serial adaptor since there is no PS/2 connector with this PC.

My problem is that I want to use other PS/2 or USB mouse instead but
none I tried worked or I did not get a mouse pointer on display. The
USB interface is made available by adding USB2 PCI card.
Please any one help.

1996, is your PC a Pentium One 133 if it is, like my old
Pentium one then your PC is to old to use a USB port. A
133 won't reconize it. I tried it with mine. It's to
slow. I have a New P4 now.
