PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse stop functioning after driver change - cod

I have a major problem with my keyboard and my mouse, where they stopped
functioning after a keyboard driver change. The keyboard is MS Multimedia
Keyboard (PS/2) and the mouse MS Intellimouse Optical (USB with PS/2 adapter).

The keyboard name in the device manager was not "Multimedia Keyboard", but
"Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2" although all keys functioned
properly, even the extra multimedia controls.

I changed manually the driver in device manager, "Microsoft IntelliType
Pro", and after this neither the keyboard nor the mouse function in the PS/2
ports.
At least I connected the mouse in the USB port where it functions normally.

The device manager shows the keyboard with an exclamation mark, it mentions
that a driver (service) for that device has stopped and gives an error code
32.

The main problem is that uninstalling the device and letting windows detect
it doesn't work as the same problematic driver remains when the keyboard is
detected.
Also Updating Driver cannot be done for some reason and the driver remains
the same.
There is no Driver Tab in the properties window and I cannot Roll Back the
Driver.

I uninstalled the PS/2 mouse from the device manager, and it does not appear
at all(when I restart windows with the mouse ps/2 connected).

The keyboard has no problem by itself, meaning that i can edit my bios, etc.
I think that some files-current drivers for the keyboard should be deleted,
to let win install default keyboard drivers, but I don't know which ones.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Make a manual Restore Point.

Try to restore to a Restore Point a day or more before you made the drivers
change.

Try to remove all Microsoft Intellitype or other software for mouse and
keyboard.

Only reinstall drivers/applications for MS mouse/keyboard from a CD, do not
manually update these drivers.

If your system is working fine and you do not require new features - do not
update hardware drivers or applications - it isn't worth trashing your system
over; newer many times is worse not better.

Problem Solved. I am just writing the solution because someone else may need
it.
I have disabled System Restore, as it never worked for me.

In a web search looking to solve this problem I found a free program called
ServiWin and by running it I found that the driver named "i8042prt" which is
file:
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\i8042prt.sys" and responsible for controlling
PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard Ports was disabled for some reason.

This is what also caused error code 32 (disabled driver).

I changed the startup setting to "automatic" and it is now loaded at Windows
startup and keyboard and mouse both function at PS/2 ports normally.

Perhaps Windows disabled the driver because it made a conflict, but it was
disabling also the user from changing to another driver.

There see, solved all your problems once again! ;-)

Windows without system restore is like working without a net. There are
several articles at Microsoft Knowledge Base that give instruction to repair
non-functional System Restore. It only really makes sense to have System
Restore on for your drive that contains the OS - turning it off for all other
drives - typical setup. If you make a System State Backup every week, and a
Full System Backup at least once a month, then you could get by without
System Restore.
