Hello all, hope someone can help.
This all started happening sometime around May 1st.
Have several Win 2000 Terminal servers, and all are patched fully,
running IE6 SP1, all are running in App mode.
I have proxy settings that set exactly correct for our proxy setup.
On some of these servers IE cannot hit external (public) websites,
internal websites work AOK. I have 2 servers on the same vlan at the
same site, one can reach the internet, the other cannot. Stand alone
PC's at the same site, can all reach the internet, no isssue, proxy
works great.
I have installed the mozilla browser at 2 of the sites on the Terminal
servers where IE cannot reach the internet, works perfectly with the
same proxy settings, can hit the internet just fine.
Using IE on the server:
When trying to hit a website such as www.yahoo.com, the browser status
bar in the bottom left corner works for a few seconds and says
"opening http://www.yahoo.com" then cycles through multiple
iterations, including:
www.www.yahoo.com.org
www.www.yahoo.com.net
www.www.yahoo.com.edu
Then finally times out and gives the "page cannot be displayed" error.
I have tried rolling back to IE 5.5, and patching back up to 6sp1. No
luck.
This is occuring on 5 Terminal servers out of 30. The only common
factors I have are that they all have windows critical updates on,
they have identical setup and settings for proxy and connections, they
are on the same network, and all have full virus updates in place. I
have also cleaned the 5 problem servers fully for spyware using spybot
and adaware.
These servers can also process ping, tracert and nslookups via cmd
prompt perfectly. I am stumped. My guess is that since mozilla works
fine with the proxy setting and IE does not that perhaps it is a IE
problem??
Any help much appreciated, I have tried everything I can think of
short of rebuilding the servers.
