protection fault

When i try to install a program I get the following
message. wowexec caused a general protection fault in
module mmsystem.dll at 000 a:0032

Could someone instruct me in solving it.

WOWEXE enables 16-bit code. You have some old program(s)
running. If you can identify it/them and get rid of them wowexe will
stop showing up.

If you identify one you cannot do without, it's recommended to run it in
"protected" memory. Click on its shortcut, select properties, shortcut
tab, Advanced, and check "Run in separate memory space" or words to that
effect.
