Protecting a header

Hello I would like to protect a header but nothing else on a document
template. Can this be done? I am using 2003. I did find some instructions
with something to be pasted into the This Document module of a Word 2000
Template (presumably 2003 as well) but I haven't a clue where this is to be
found!

Thanks that is just what I wanted, but it has thrown up another possible
problem. The unprotected parts have a cream background, can that be removed?

Sure - bring up the Protection Task Pane & remove the check on "Highlight
the regions I can edit". However, I believe any time someone opens the file
& attempts to make changes the shading will appear & the Task Pane will
display in order to mae the user aware of the protection & where they
can/cannot edit.

Yes that seems to be the case, although the task pane doesn't automatically
display.

Thanks anyway.
