Protected form, tabs and track changes

I am creating a protected form in a table format. The table contains check
mark and text form fields. Jumping from field to field with the Tab works
fine. The user can check and edit text. The editable fields contain text that
needs to be revised showing tracked changes. By using continuous section
breaks this is possible, but now the tabbing is not working correct anymore
(it creates a new cell). I can not move these fields to the end of the form.
Has anyone a solution for this?

Thanks

Hi, gid. I've seen lots of people unprotect portions of their form for
reasons that aren't really valid. Why are you not protecting your whole
form?

Hi Anne,

I am protecting the document, only parts contain the track changes option.
The "free text" sections need to be checked and approved by several people.
This is working fine. The only thing that bothers me is that you can not use
the tab button anymore to jump from entry point to entry point.

I'm not sure I completely understand your situation. That you created a form,
with form fields I get. And the document was protected, then filled out? And
now you want to activate change tracking for editing what was entered in the
form fields (and other sections)?

Which version of Word are we dealing with?

If I've understood correctly, then basically, I'd say: turn on change tracking,
then reprotect the document. If this is Word 2002 or 2003, reprotect using the
toolbar button. If it's an older version, then you'll probably need to use a
macro. The basic code for doing that is in the Forms section of my website.

Hi Cindy,

I see that I was not completely clear. Let me try to improve the question:
I am using Word 2003.
I create a form in which I have both check marks and text fields.
I protect the document and save it as a template.
A user creates a new document based on this template and starts filling in
the fields. The user uses the tab key to jump from field to field.
The following recipient of the filled in form needs to make changes in the
text fields only, but with track marks on.
To switch on track marks is only possible in this protected document if I
insert section breaks before and after the text that can be revised (in the
template) and define that kind of protection for those sections.
So far all is working.
The only problem is that when you create a new document or edit the
document, you can not use the tab anymore.......
I hope this is more clear.
