Prospect vs Customer in Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2003

What's the best way to distinguish between a prospect and a customer in
Business Contact Manager? For example. I met a prospect who may want to buy
something. I create an opportunity, but that doesn't tell me if the person
is already a customer or not.

Why do I need the distinction? In case I want to send an incentive to
prospects.

I use the account's "state" field. My active ones are customers and my
inactive ones are prospects.
