proper reboot sequence

A friend has a PC with a cable modem and a wireless D-Link router for his
daughters laptop. Modem is from Charter Communications and it crashes
sometimes as he is unable to access the internet although his daughter still
has access through the router for her laptop. What is the proper reboot
sequence for his system? Shut everything off and then boot modem, router and
then PC? He is running XP Home. Don't know if it is SP-1 or 2. Thanks, Steve

Since his daughter's laptop still has Internet access, it appears that
the router and the cable modem are working OK.

Have your friend disable and then enable the local area network
connection on his computer. If that doesn't fix the problem, reboot
his computer.

If there's still a problem, reboot the router.

I went over and sure enough the cable from the desktop to the router was
"loose". I booted everything back up in the sequence I mentioned and it now
works. He had rebooted everything several times before I got over there.
