Proper background image size

Frank

Hi - (my original question on IE)
I'm on Frontpage 2003, Win XP Pro SP2. I'm putting in a
single (full covering - not tiled) background image for a
flash site/page in Frontpage (transparency is selected
in 'Movie in Flash format' Properties). I know this is a
really basic question (he does flash sites but doesn't
know this?), but what is the proper size for a background
image to cover all browsers ? I'm using a 1200 x 1200
pixels jpg at the present. I just want to get the
smallest file as possible - could I possibly take the
width down to, say, 800 pixels ? Thanks for your
suggestions, and pardon my ignorance....Frank

If you want a background image to fill the page, without tiling, in 99% of
browsers and screen resolutions, you need an image 1600x1200.

To go the extra mile for 100% coverage - I have seen video cards capable of
2800x1200, I am looking for the monitor.
