Prompted to log in repeatedly on secure website

I provide tech support for a secure government website (portal). I've been
hearing from a lot of users that after they log in to the site, they cannot
access the secure areas and, rather than getting a page cannot be displayed
error, they are prompted to log in again (probably related to the fact that
it's a portal). They all seem to be using IE SP2, which I am also using, but
neither I nor any of my team can replicate the problem. I've had them modify
their security & privacy settings and I know that one user was able to fix it
by resetting his system clock. Does anyone know of a simple fix for this
that wouldn't involve me telling people to modify their system registry?

Hi,

Depending on the nature of the authentication system, it can be critical
that the system clock, and specifically the date, is correct. Failure to ensure
accurate timekeeping can result in users being unable to log on to their
accounts, or other assorted errors. This is usually because the certificate
expires or becomes invalid due to differences between the server and client
time.

You may find some valid background information here:

I hope this is of some use to you,

Best regards,

Altrus

I am having the exact same problem. I log into the site, and get the welcome
back to that paticular site.. but when I click on something, I am brought
back to the login screen. I've tried to lower security settings and
everything. Happened after SP2.
