Promoting a server.

Hi all;

We have 3 W2K servers running AD, in the office and they
are configured as follows.

Server 1 PDC is running DNS/DHCP/GC and printer sharing
Server 2 BDC File Sharing
Server 3 BDC Exchange 5.5

We have an error in the AD database that is beyond
salvation. What I would like to do is demote Server 1. My
question is once I demote server 1, what happens with
server 2 and server 3. Do I have to reinstall DNS/DHCP
(and authorized in the forest). Or once is demoted it
will automatically transfers those services to BDC? Any
help will be greatly appreciated.

You will need to reinstall those services. You will also need to transfer
FSMO roles to another server, see this MS Knowledge Base article:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=223787

Probably, the error in AD is replicated to the other two servers, though.

Best regards

Bjorn
