The system takes such a long time (about 5 minutes)to
search and display all folders in 'My computer'. I have
touble saving my file (save as) to other location too.
This happened after i installed MS Office 2003 recently.

Go to Start/Run and type msconfig in the box and hit OK. Select the Startup
tab and uncheck any programmes you don't want starting up when you boot.

Also - how close to the minimum requirements is your PC for installing
Office
2003. It's a big package. If you don't have the space/power/RAM etc, it will
slow the whole thing down.

When you click Start and then click My Computer, or when you double-click My
Computer on your Windows desktop, Windows may search (a flashlight may
appear) for a long time (for example, 5 minutes) before files appear.

Disable the Windows Image Acquisition service.

If this does not help, uninstall 821557 hotfix

.
I had same problem. My problem appears to be my USB-
connected HP 5370c scanner. MS Knowledge base says to
turnoff or diconnect the scanner before booting (Article
819017). This works. I then turn on the scanner and all
works fine. I reinstalled XP Professional from scratch.
The OS found the scanner as before. I rebooted several
times over the next couple of days with no problem with
searching. I used the scanner using the software built
into XP. ...then I installed the software that came with
the HP scanner. Upon rebooting, the long search was
back. Good luck, ..... HFL
