Projection Resolution--Automatic adjustment of image size.

I have been using Keynote and am now trying to do something similar with
PowerPoint (2008 Mac version). In Keynote I first set the screen resolution I
want--we are moving from an XGA (1024x768) projector to a UXGA (1600 x 1200)
projector for better on-screen image resolution. I am trying to put 5 images
on the screen at once (craft show jurying) by dropping them into a template
that will have 5 boxes each of which is about 500 x 500 pixels. In Keynote I
can simply made a template that has 5 1x1 tables, each of which is adjusted
to 500 x500 pixels in size on my 1600 x 1200 screen. I can arrange those
tables any way I want. I can drag and drop any size image onto one of those
tables and Keynote will automatically resize it keeping the image ratio the
same. When I have 500 entries (2500 images) to prepare for the jury to see,
that makes the job pretty simple.

I have not been able to find a way to do a similar thing in PowerPoint.
First I can't find a way to set overall screen resolution. Second, images
don't seem to go into tables. Third, when I try to insert a picture it just
shows at the pixel count it is--I don't want to have to resize 2500 images. I
have tried to use the SmartArt Graphics, but it does not preserve image ratio
when I insert an oversize image into one of the boxes. Is there any way to
do this easily or should I stick with Keynote?

You might want to ask this in the Mac newsgroup. I have to ask, that if your
having the success your having with one program, why try another?

Hi Michael,

Our Guild office is Windows-based and I, as a volunteer, would eventually
like to be able to extract myself from this task.

John the potter,
First I can't find a way to set overall screen resolution
The overall screen resolution in powerpoint is either set by the 'desktop'
resolution of windows.

or you can overide that by having a look in 'slideshow setup' - to manually
set another resolution.
Second, images don't seem to go into tables.
Better to put them into 'autoshapes' e.g a rectangle.

to add a picture it's under the 'fill effects' > picture settings
Third, when I try to insert a picture it just
shows at the pixel count it is

Just set the 'proportion' of your images to the same proportion as your
'autoshapes' / rectangles

That will do the trick

cheers
