I currently have 9 programs running against my user name, firstly how does
this happen? and secondly how do I close the other 8 programs as this is
slowing down my computer

Hello Mandy,
Have you tried just closing the program before opening others? Have you
downloaded anything from the internet? Do you know what the programs are?
Try going to safemode and running a spyware check. While you are there click
ALT+Ctrl+Delete and bring up the Task Manager. Write down the processes that
are running. Then after you run the spyware check, reboot to start mode ,
bring up the task mang. again and look for processes that were not running in
safe mode. Click on> bring to front in Task Mang. to bring the program to the
front so that you can ID it. Be sure to run the spyware check. Best of luck
