i'm having trouble invoking programs under xp home. the icons are there on
the desktop, on the start menu and in an explorer windows but when i try to
invoke one, i get a "file not found" dialog giving the full path of the
file. when i check the location of this file using explorer the file is
there, it just won't run. when i use explorer to look at the windows folder
i can see notepad but when i double-click on it i get the dialog box. when i
double-click on .jpg files i get the micrsoft fax and picture viewer showing
the picture as expected. when i try to invoke a program using the run box of
the start menu i get another "file not found" error. for example, i'm unable
to run "cmd" from the run box as i'm used to. outlook express and internet
explorer start fine. i get the same behaviour in safe mode. what's the
problem? any help is greatly appreciated.
