Programs won't open

When I log onto my account on Windows XP, I cannot open
many of the programs and also the start menu will freeze
open.

Any help to resolve this is greatly appreciated.
 
Boot your machine into safe mode and see if you can work ok there. If so,
check for the msblast worm on the web as well as use msconfig.exe to clean
boot the machine to see if that helps at all.
