Programs wont open

whenever i try to open i a program i have just installed,
i get a command prompt that just dissapears, it says

"Select 'File directory here\filename here'" on the
titlebar

this problem is very annoying and it has made my computer
almost totally useless.

any help would be appreciated

Hi Anthony,
The issue could be with the Program registry. When you start your
system, choose "Last known good configuration", If you have a registry
backup, try importing the same.
Also you can use your Windows 200 Pro CD and choose repair option.
this would get your system to normal state.
