Having problems with programs or devices that will not run in user accounts
other than the administrator (or account from which the process was setup).

Specifically - HP Scanner. Works fine when logged into my account, but will
not operate from my families accounts. Getting message:
"There is a problem with registry setting. One or more settings were reset
to the default values {2099}"
Followed by "Reinstall scan software {2141}" which I did to no avail.

there's lots of examples of programs that do not run properly in
accounts other than the one in which it was set up, and there's tons of
examples of programs that run fine in all other accounts other than the
one in which it was set up. it's not really an XP problem.

there are cases where i live with the consequences, and there are cases
where i work around the consequences. for example, SpySweeper does not
run in any other account other than the account in which it was
installed. maybe it's a case of a sleep-deprived programmer, or maybe
it was done by design. maybe they think anti-spyware should not be
always running active (scanning) in memory, in spite of the fact that
all anti-virus software i know of runs always active in memory in every
account, and SpySweeper itself has a component that runs always active
in memory, but only in the account in which it was installed.

i reported it to them in a problem report, and maybe someday they will
wake up to the realization that 99% of average PC users in the world
should really not be logged on the Administrators account when surfing
the wild wild web. for the time being though, they are living in
denial. meanwhile, i uninstalled the software, and then reinstalled it
using the only Limited user account i use to surf the wild wild web.

it's a problem with the sleep-deprived developer and/or the software
which was not developed properly for XP to run in all accounts, and
needs to be addressed with the software maker. you will have to push
the problem to resolution with your software maker.

SPYSWEEPER , MAJOR PROBLEM and WEAKNESS, BUG, ISSUES, ERROR !! Buyer
beware.

and the version 3.5 is even worse ,
3.5 will not install as "USER".
I never use ADMIN while cruzing the web or reading any mail.
They have a very serious problem at Spysweeper.

The PC mag rating , this month, did not even touch this topic.
So Ziff Davis was asleep too.

Good luck one and all.
