Programs running slow

Hi, I wonder if someone could please help me.? For the last few weeks all
the programs on my pc have been running slowly, usually if I am using
something like Sound Forge or CD wave etc the files open and save in a flash
but recently they have become very slow. If I am trying to get online, read
emails, open text documents etc it takes ages, it's as if I can only operate
one thing at a time.
I have treid everything, defraging, check disc, minimal settings, I also
wiped my pc and re-installed most of the applications so I doubt if it is a
virus. Has anyone any ideas? Thank you.
