would like to stop some programs from running everytime I
turn on my computer.

On each program you don't want to start automatically, check its
Options to see if it has the choice not to start. Many can easily
and best be stopped that way. If that doesn't work, run MSCONFIG
from the Start | Run line, and on the Startup tab, uncheck the
programs you don't want to start automatically.

Start - Run - MSconfig.exe

On the Startup page you can review them and either (better) disable any
'run when windows starts' in the program themselves, or uncheck the
lines concerned there. Exit - do not bother to reboot, but next time
you do there will be a message about 'Troubleshooting'. Check the 'Do
not show again' box and exit
