Programs on separate drive

Just wonder if the Win xp is installed on C drive and other programs on D
drive (partition), when the C is infected with trojan or virus, can I
reinstall/reformat C: Wondows and will the programs on D work? I realized
that some software must be installed on C. Is it a way to reduce the risk?

No. There is no virtue in installing the programs on a separate drive
(unless your system drive is too small and you have to do this). If you
have to reinstall Windows, you'll have to reinstall all the programs.
However, it is a good idea to keep your *data* on a separate hard
drive.
