block installation on D drive

Hello ppl,

In our company we have a domain that is on windows2003 level.
We use SMS 2003 for our software distribution.

Our domain computers are installed with XP pro
We have a C and D drive.

C is for installation of WindowsXP, D is for storage of personal data.

We notice that some of our users are using the D drive for installation for
installations of programs that arent approved by us.

we want users to be able to use D drive for storage but not for installations

Is there a way for us to block any installation on the D drive without our
users loosing the ability to store data on the D drive ?

Thanks in advance for your replies

I don't see how your users are able to install any programs. A standard
domain user can't. Check the permissions on those users and make sure they
are standard and have no administrative privileges. Also create and publish
a company policy stating consequences for installing unauthorized software.

Set permissions for users to stop them..

Use your intranet to publish and allow download of programs which are ok, if
any..

Scan all computers for rogue programs and make it clear to users that the
computer systems are for work use only and that configuration changes are
not allowed except for what is made available on the intranet..
