Programs not launching upon reboot/power up

I've got a small problem as denoted by the subject. It seems once I
reboot programs won't launch. Folders will still open tho. But the odd
thing is after about 3-5 minutes programs will then launch normally.
It's kinda weird. Anyway, this only started happening after I tried to
download something from FileFactory thru Mozilla Firefox. When that
happened a ton of text showed up and it caused the computer to reboot
on its own (which means it must've hit a major error, correct?). Also,
after the reboot I did run Spybot S&D and AVG virus scan to check for
viruses/spyware and both came empty after full scans.

Specs: WinXP Home SP2 - 128 MB RAM - Intel Celeron Processor 1.3 GHz

Right now it's more annoying than anything else with the delay after
startup but I'm asking to know if it could be something more serious
later. Any help would be appreciated.

128Megs of RAM is your problem I'd say.

I've found that XP just seems to take longer and longer on bootup
before I can launch any programs the longer I've been running it.

Upgrading your RAM should help though, it did for me.

Plus, AVG can take a while to do it's thing on startup, especially on
128M RAM.

I sound like a RAM pimp (not the wooly type)
