Programs Continuosuly and Regularly Locking Up and causing crashes

I recently reformatted my hard drive because of one too many viruses. it was causing every program I ran to lock up and stop functioning. These viruses were blaster, sasser, randex, welchia, korgo. I used norton antivirus to clean them out and internet security to keep them out. Since reinstalling windows, I'm having the same problem with my programs locking up. I have a feeling, and it's told me on a few occasions, that it is a problem with the RPC (remote procedure call). Any ideas how I can fix this guys? It's a real problem since I need my computer for work. Thanks for the advice

Try to perform an online scan at any of these sites:
Trend Micro HouseCall:
http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall/

Panda Active Scan:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan/

RAV AntiVirus Online Virus Scan
http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/

BitDefender Free Online Virus Scan
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/license.php

Also perform a scan looking for spyware using ad-aware and spybot.

Do you have your firewall enabled? Either XP's own or a third-party
one, like Zone Alarm, free at www.zonealarm.com

I can't use these things online because IE continuously locks up. It is no longer a virus problem and is more than likely a corrupted RPC problem. ANy help with that?

Hi Chris, I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307654
How to install and use the Recovery Console

Start the RPC Service
1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click
Computer Management.

2. Double-click Services and Applications, click Services, and then double-click
Remote Procedure Call (RPC).
3. In the Startup type dialog box, click Automatic, click OK, and then restart
your computer.
NOTE: If the RPC Service is disabled, you may need to use the Recovery Console.

In Recovery Console, run Enable RPCSS Service_Auto_Start, and then restart your
computer.

Well, it's not the RPC service that needs to be restarted, I already tried that...but thanks for the info...
