programs and files not opening automatically

Good morning! I came in to work this morning and started opening the usual
programs and when I clicked on the desktop icon, none of them would open
automatically anymore. This is also happening to all of my files. I shut the
system down as usual, but I do know that my CPA had used remote access last
night. Would this have anything to do with it? And how do I fix it? Please,
someone, help!
