Program Won't Open

I have an accounting program by Peachtree that I loaded back in 2001. It is
designed for a Windows 2000 platform.

Recently, when I click on the desktop icon, the logo window appears on the
monitor, but the program hangs right there. If I hit Control-Alt-Delete,
the program does not appear in the list. The logo screen goes all white. I
cannot get rid of this window without logging off, or re-booting. I tried
deleting the software and re-installing same, but the end results are the
same.

Interestingly, if I boot up in SAFE mode, I can access/run the program
without a problem. Obviously, there is something that the software doesn't
like when Windows boots up in the Normal mode. But, is this correctable, or
will I always have to run this program in the SAFE mode? (The company has
been acquired and no longer offers updates to its software.) The only
system changes that have been made are those via Windows Update.

Thanks!

Autoruns -- Now that's what I call impressive!

The question is: am I knowledgeable enough to use it correctly? (There are
a ton of listings.)

I presume that the Microsoft listings are okay.

If I uncheck a listing, do I have to re-boot for it to take effect? If it
has no impact, I presume that I run Autoruns again and re-check?

Someone (much more computer knowledgeable than I) said that the hang may be
graphics related, because of the build date of my computer (02-06-2001), and
the age of the software (about the same time). I would think that that
might be more graphics driver related (I'm using an Intel 82815 Graphics
Controller).

You might try killing everything that runs at startup in order to find the
cause via msconfig (from XP) or autoruns.

*** Probably.
If I uncheck a listing, do I have to re-boot for it to take effect?

*** For the most part log off, then logon again.

If it
has no impact, I presume that I run Autoruns again and re-check?
*** Yes.

*** You could try another adapter if you have one.

Because of the myriad of entries, it's unfortunate that Autoruns is not able
to date when the entries were added to the system.

I did install an older version of Intel's Graphic Controller.
Unfortunately, in booting I receive a message:

"hkcmd.exe Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point IsDisplayDeviceActive could not be located in the
dynamic link library. hccutils.dll"

It does not impact the monitor display that I can see -- other than the
annoyance of the message each time one boots up.
