program shutdowns and explorer freeze

Lately I have had a number of problems: Whenever I try to open a file or save
from a program (Photoshop, InDesign, AutoCad), the program closes. I am also
having problems with the screen freezeing when I open a folder from windows
and I have to use ctrl/alt/del to close explorer.exe.
I have also lost all previous restore points (don't ask me how, they just
seased to exist), so I can't restore my computer to a point before the
problem started.
I have tried to run virus and spyware checks, but they come up negative.
Removing all codecs and reinstalling them does'nt help. I have also tried
ShellExView to toggel off anything non Microsoft.

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type (or paste in): SFC /SCANNOW
