Program like Norton Ghost?

John

Hi

Is there a freeware or open source program like Norton Ghost for
Windows? Ideally, I'm looking for something that, like Ghost, will
create a snapshot of the system partition and then enable you to boot
from CD to restore the snapshot on to the system partition.

Thanks

No freeware that will do this that I would trust. If there is one piece of
software that is essential decent imaging software is it. Acronis TrueImage
is my favorite imagining software for many reasons and I have used nearly
every popular imagining program there is. However BootIt NG is also a good
choice albeit more difficult to use with many less features than Acronis
TrueImage BootIt is very stable and has good tech support.

Please don't top post and also use a delimiter because when someone
replies with a real newsreader, your delimiter nukes the rest of the
message. So, either bottom post and follow standard Usenet protocol or
stop using a signature with a delimiter. May I suggest that you stop
using Outhouse Distress and switch to Thunderbird. Not only is T-Bird
configured to Usenet standards, it has an excellent as-you-type spell
check and spam filter feature. And T-Bird *is* free ware :) Get it at
http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird.

I missed the free ware or open source comment in the OP's post and, no,
Acronis is not either and you have to pay for it.

Don't tell people how to post. This is a Microsoft newsgroup and Microsoft's
own newsreader posts on top.

Neither. Acronis True Image is a commercial program.

Hi John,

No, I'm afraid there is no freeware that will do what you want.

TerrabyteUnlimited offers BootIt NG which will both make an image of your
OS and manage partitions, creating them and changing their size. I found
that it worked where Acronis' partition manager did not.

The firm's Image for DOS, Image for Windows and Image for Linux, which make
and restore images, are sold as a package at quite a low price.

The Image for DOS, etc. imaging programs are switching to a new version
right now. If you buy the tried and true ver. 1, I believe you can get the
new version 2 for free when you like.

Good luck, Dan S
