Program Icons Not Appearing

My computer was shut down for a week while out of town and when I returned
and turned my computer on the icons for the programs on my quick launch were
not showing, all that was appearing was a box of colored dots where the icon
should be. I tried removing the programs from the quick launch and then
adding them back which didn't correct the problem I also rebooted a couple of
times to no avail. I then noticed that the icons are also not appearing when
I view "all programs" but the same programs with missing icons in the quick
launch and view all programs do show up on my desk top. Any idea what the
problem is and how I can fix it, I would greatly appreciate it.
