Hi,
I have loaded a media program which keeps accessing the
net. It would bring up the modem connection box whenever I
start the computer. How do stop the porgram from
hijacking my modem connection. I have Zone alarm and
Sygate. they both seems not to do anything. meantime,It
slows down the computer significantly.

Hi Mich,

Right click My Network Places/Properties/Advanced (top toolbar)/Dial-Up
Preferences/Enable Auto-Dial by Location/Uncheck all locations and check off
always ask me before auto dialing. Also, Disable autodial while I am logged
on.

In the Enable Auto-Dial By Location dialog box, select each location for
which you want the automatic dialing feature to operate. Reboot.

Disable or Enable AutoDial (Line 91)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To view the list of names and addresses recorded by AutoDial, type the
following command at a command prompt: rasautou -s

To delete a name or address entry from the list: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\RAS Autodial\Addresses

You can delete any TCP/IP addresses that you see under this key. Note that
AutoDial can use IP addresses, DNS fully qualified domain names (FQDN), and
NetBIOS names.

Go into the Media programs configuration and find
the "start when windows start" or "load at windows
startup" or "automatically dial a connection when none is
present" something along those lines and uncheck the
option. The same goes for any automatic update options.
Don't use them. You can stop the program from starting by
going start\run and type in msconfig and then hit enter or
ok and then click the startup tab and uncheck the box
associated with this media program. It may place another
entry her though if the media program is designed to do so
when you have checked any automatic features in the
programs configuration. Keep smiling.

I recently ran into a similar problem with a internet
provider "hijacking" my computer, I got a program called
Pest Patrol and that fixed the problem after I ran the
program....Good Luck
