program files

Hello,

In my 'program files' folder I see subfolders with names I don't recognise,
do not appear under 'control panel - uninstall a program', nor on the start
button 'all programs' option.

Is it safe to delete them ?

Thanks

I don't know for sure, but I would be extremely wary about deleting
things like that. If you delete something, you should always be sure
you know exactly what you are deleting.

Tell us the names of these folders. That may let us give you more
help.

Are the subfolders empty?

If not, what's in them?

I've got 159 subfolders in my XP Program Files folder. Not all are
labeled with the name of the actual programs within.

Program Files is a protected folder on Vista.

I sugggest you copy the ones you don't recognize to a new temporary folder,
and then delete them from the Programs folder. If you find the deletion
created a problem you can restore the deleted items from the temporary
folder.
