There is no program.exe. This is a generic error message meaning that
Windows can't find any program to open the selected file. What kind of
image files are these? What exactly are you clicking on now to enlarge the
image?

They are photos, and I used to be able to double click on
them to open them but now it gives the error message
instead. But its the same thing for any image file.

If you want images to open in XP's Picture and Fax Viewer for quick viewing
(the integrated viewer), use Start> Run and type:
regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

I typed in what you told me to and nothing happened.
What had supposed to happen?

You should get a message that registering the DLL was successful and have
to click OK to dismiss that notice.

Sorry if this is too basic of a question but after typing that command into
the Run box, did you click OK to run it?

PS: If you have any Adobe image editing programs installed, try turning off
their thumbnailer options. It seems to interfere with many of the XP image
options.

I did as you said and yes I did click to confirm, I can
right click on the image and open with "windows picture
and fax viewer" But it will not open the file when I
click on `open`

Thanks Tony

Okay, at least we're closer - you can view pictures in XP's picture viewer
now. What program do you want them to open in?

Suggestion: Install Irfanview. This is a handy little image editing/viewing
program that I keep installed right along with Photoshop, PSP and Painter.
It can be downloaded from: http://www.irfanview.com Installing it and then
associate whatever file types you want to open with this program.

OR

Restore the default open commands for the various image files formats. See
MVP Doug Knox's page for his fixes that restore file associations:
