dazed and confused

hi.. i keep getting a program event sound(s).. according
to sounds and audio device properties the sounds
mean "device disconnect" and "device connect". it always
happens in that order.. disconnect then connect with no
hesitation between the 2 sounds.

i have no idea of WHAT is disconnecting/connecting and/or
why... and i can't find out just what these sounds are
hooked to.

any idea how to track this down and make it stop?

Dazed,

Those sounds usually occur when USB devices are physically
connected/disconnected.

You might want take a look in device manager for usual settings such as
multiple instances of the same device appearing, or a device(s) shown in
"Other devices".

By extension, it might be a malfunctioning or corrupt USB device driver.

Let us know what you find out.

i was *thinking* usb. the only usb device connected to
my computer is a 6 in 1 internal card reader. a friend
suggested turning off power management to usb to see if
possibly the device powering down caused it...nope.

as far as unusual or "other' devices.. none as far as my
limited knowledge can tell.

multi device listings.. well i have 3 default monitors
plus a plug and play. i have 3 usb root hubs.. dunno if
i'm supposed to or not.. with 3 host controllers.. 2 of
which are the same. the 6 in 1 reader mentioned above is
listed under 3 headings.. under usb controllers as a mass
storage device.. under storage devices listed as 4
generic volumes (4 slots on reader) and listed in disk
drives as the 4 "seperate" decives they are (like smart
media.. compact flash.. etc.) the only other multi
listings for anything is under system devices.. ones for
mother board resources and one for memory controller.

thanks for replying. and i hope this info can help you
to help me :)
